About the Antioch Atelier

Located in old town Antioch, two blocks from the delta, Antioch Atelier is my studio and teaching space. It is situated behind my 1925 era house; 1100 square feet in size, the studio is divided into two spaces; the brick studio, once a large wood-fired oven for the first Italian bakery in Antioch, is now a light-filled room where we hold frequent figure drawing groups. Next door is the larger wood studio, where the baked goods were prepared; when I moved in I found a huge piece of marble, covered in dust, that must have been for rolling pastry. (I also found a large baking paddle that had current employment covering a hole in the wall.)

I frequently walk down the street, to eat at the Riverview Lodge and to gaze out of their windows; I love to watch the river and the skies as they change color towards sunset. This old downtown of Antioch is abandoned most nights; understandably, with so many empty storefronts. (We often wonder where the daytime traffic comes from.)

It is nice to have it to ourselves.
