Learn methods and techniques of painting the figure and portrait in oil, acrylic or pastel. Topics demonstrated include basic block-in, composition, values, color palette, and brushwork as well as measuring, proportion and foreshortening. Pastel layering also demonstrated. Model poses range from quick studies to 3 week sessions, draped and nude, portrait and figure. Weather permitting one session painting the figure in an outdoor environment.

Does color theory make you cross-eyed? Learn the secrets of color in this exciting workshop. Color mixing becomes a breeze once you understand the simple rules. Each week we will discover different aspects to using color, while you assemble a color ‘bible’ to keep as your personal guide. Lecture and demo, with lots of practical painting exercises. Materials: List available online or in office; some materials will be introduced for purchase later in session.
This Winter! Travel Painting; the Basics

You are invited to join me for a two-day workshop on travel painting at Lafayette Studio on January 28 -29.
Day One will focus on the packing and carrying logistics; the what, why and how of your paint, brushes and equipment; and a quick overview of painting basics.
Day Two will be a plein air painting primer and test run while indoors.
All media welcome.
Cost of this workshop is $190, and only $100 for participants registered for 2012 Painting in Costa Rica or Italian Summer. To register for one day, the tuition is $100, and only $50 for PCR and IT registrants.

Learn the techniques of Titian and other old masters. Using oils (preferred) or acrylics we will work through the processes of underpainting, grisaille, layering and glazing to achieve a beautiful and timeless three-dimensionality. Previous experience drawing the figure recommended.
