Virtual Drawing and Painting with Pastel
Mondays 11:30am – 1:30pm
3/29/21 – 5/17/21
Center for Community Arts – Event location: Join us on Zoom!

Using the still life as my subject, I will demonstrate how to block in, set value pattern, place basic color shapes, refine, and finish a lovely pastel painting on paper. There will be a demonstration each week, with time for questions and individual advice. I am pre-recording some of the demonstrations so I can discuss the process during the video, and answer questions during short intervals. Discussion topics include materials, techniques, composition, use of color. Before the first session, students will receive simple instructions via email on how to set up a simple still life so they can practice the concepts and techniques at home. The following weeks will include time for sharing and discussing student work online. Students who would rather keep it private can email me their work and I will respond with written advice. Returnees welcome!

A new class to explore abstraction through composition! Both the abstraction of reality and the process of creating non-representational art will be our focus; compositional principles will be discussed and implemented in our paintings and drawings. There will be a demonstration each week, with time for questions and individual advice. I am pre-recording some demonstrations so I can discuss the process during the videos and answer questions during short intervals. Each session will include time for sharing and discussing student work online. Students who would rather keep it private can email me their work and I will respond with written advice. This is a mixed media class; materials can be both painting and drawing media, even some collage materials may be used.
