Hybrid Into the Abstract
Wednesdays 9:00am – 12:00am
9/15/21 – 11/3/21
Center for Community Arts – Studio A and on Zoom
A new class to explore abstraction through composition! Both the abstraction of reality and the process of creating non-representational art will be our focus; compositional principles will be discussed and implemented in our paintings and drawings. There will be technique demonstrations each onsite week (beginning with the first week), with time for questions and individual advice. Online sessions will be every other week and will include time for sharing and discussing student work online, as well as lively exploration of well known artists past and present. Weeks 1, 3, 5 and 7 will be onsite: 2, 4, 6 and 8 will be online. We are trying this differenmt sort of hybrid class because this past year online was so wide-ranging and enjoyable that we wanted to continue, but we also want to get our hands messy in a group!

This is a mixed media class; materials can be both painting and drawing media, even some collage materials may be used.

Explore the techniques of the old masters. Using oils or acrylics, work
through the processes of underpainting, grisaille, layering and
glazing to achieve a beautiful and timeless three-dimensionality.

with materials from list, ready to work! Returnees are welcome!
